Services for Australian Defence Force members
Individuals working in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) develop specialist skills, and while these skills are generally transferable into civilian industries, many ADF members may be unsure how to present themselves to non-ADF employers. Like others in career transition, ADF members have some difficult decisions ahead of them.
Depending on your position within the ADF, you may have made a long-term commitment and been out of the job market for many years. Entering a civilian industry can be daunting and raise questions such as:
- what are your employment opportunities outside the ADF?
- which career path should you follow?
- what are your transferable skills?
- will non-defence force employers understand what you have to offer?
- what is your value to an employer in the marketplace in wage terms?
The Defence industry is unique in its culture and demands, and for a career transition program to be successful it must be tailored to the specific needs of the organisation. In addition, each individual brings unique skills and experiences that need to be translated into a package that employers understand. LHH consultants have the experience and understanding to make an ADF career transition successful. Our tailored programs combine the following services:
- one-on-one sessions with LHH career consultants
- a range of job skills seminars including resume writing, interview techniques, networking and self-marketing
- use of office space and facilities including phone, fax, internet, printer, photocopier
- use of LHH online resources
- access to LHH job search reference manuals
