Building Resilience

Resilient staff create a resilient organisation

Business in the 21st century is all about change: growth, mergers, downsizing, restructuring.  Organisations need to be resilient and flexible and the key is to have a resilient and flexible workforce, well resourced to manage change.

Often employees find change difficult and stressful and it is essential for managers to show leadership and offer support. Communication is key in an environment of rapid change: a complex situation can be dramatically improved by ensuring that everyone involved can understand the bigger picture.

Effective management

Leading employees through times of change is not easy. Strong leadership is essential and employees will be more productive if their leaders can provide focus and direction. Managers can feel anxious and uncomfortable when faced with unexpected challenges and will benefit from learning about change management. Training that assists managers and employees to understand their reactions to change and to stay focused and positive, has been shown to:

  • improve staff retention
  • reduce absenteeism and lost productivity
  • engage staff in the change process by encouraging them to take responsibility for their own reactions and development

Lee Hecht Harrison training in building resilience helps participants:

  • explore the importance of communication in changing work environments and understand the difference between information and communication
  • understand the four key roles a leader can play in helping individuals develop resilience
  • develop an action plan for encouraging employees to develop greater resilience in the work environment
